So yes, something totally bizarre and wonderful happened this week. Owing to an implausible chain of coincidences and invisible networks, I found myself at XS Malarkey for the first time this week. For the uninitiated, XS Malarkey is a comedy club in Manchester run by the unsurpassable Toby Hadoke, and it’s won more Chortle awards than the Red Baron had kills.
But I wasn’t there to watch. Oh no. Improbably enough, that video above is the first minute of me being onstage with Tony Slattery. Yes, THE Tony Slattery, of Whose Line Is It Anyway? fame. We did fifteen minutes of improv and it went like a dream. Still not sure if I’m awake – not least because Russell Kane was in the audience. He followed us onstage and was incredibly nice to me afterwards.
It’s a strange life, but sometimes it’s a good one.
